For the pen, I have the same issue, you can try by not pushing them to far and/ or try the adaptors for pens that are in Amazon, that really helped me and the thing that is opening is because probably the place to hold the pen is too tight, that never happend to me so I’m just guessing.
In terms of the loading mats, are your rolls too dirty?, is there any frameware update that you need to do on your cricut?
