Step 1.1: Design Our Gingerbread Coaster
1- First we are going to install the font that we are going to use in our design. In this case Baskerville, DIN Condensed, Christmas Wish, JandaChunky, Felt and PT Narrow Fonts.
💡Tip: You need to make sure that Design Space is closed before installing the new font, if not you have to close it and open it again in order to see the font listed on your Fonts types in Design Space.
2- We are going to measure our physical coasters and we are going to add a rectangle (or the shape of our coasters) shape and we are going to change the color to white, to match our physical coasters. In our case:
3- We are going to add the word: Gingerbread and we are going to change the font to Baskerville.
4- We are going to resize the text so it fits inside the shape and using the curve functionality we are going to curve to generate some movement:
5- Now, we are going to continue by adding the word: Bakery and change the font to DIN Condensed.
6- Now, we are going to search for a gingerbread image, and we are going to add the image twice.
7- We are going to place our text and the 2 images inside our “coaster”
💡Tip: You can add any other wording, gingerbread or image that you like.
8- Using the same font as Bakery (DIN Condensed) we are going to add 2 words separately from each other: “EST.” and “2024”, and we are going to place them on each side of the gingerbreads:
9- We are going to add 2 squares and we are going to resize them in order to have some kind of separation lines:
10- Now using the same font as previously (DIN Condensed) we are going to add the following text: Hot Cocoa – Pies – Cookies, we are going to resize it so it can fit between the 2 lines that we just added:
11 – If you are going to use the same color for the whole coaster, you can proceed and attach all the elements together so when you cut it, you can just place them as is in the coaster and transfer it.
Step 1.2: Design Our Christmas Truck Coaster
1- We are going to proceed with our second design, so we are going to upload our Christmas truck image.
2- We are going to place and resize our truck over another square that is going to simulare our second coaster:
3- Using the text functionality we are going to write: Merry Christmas, we are going to change the font to Christmas Wish and we are going to resize it and we are going to put it on a side, something like:
💡Tip: You can add any other wording, change the truck color or add any other detail to the coaster as you like.
Step 1.3: Design Our Christmas Wreath Coaster
For complex designs that normally use Vinyl you overlap one color over another, with Infusible INK this is not possible! You CAN NOT overlap colors. In order to “overlap” colors you need to slice the base color and put over that blank space the different color. We are going to try this technique with our next design.
1- We are going to search for the Wreath image and add it to our canvas:
2- Once in your canvas, you are going to ungroup the image in order to have the following:
3- We need to make sure that on the 4 layers (red, green, yellow and black) we are going to slice all the elements for the other layers, so when we need to transfer them we can overlap one color over the next one.
In order to slice, you need to select 2 elements put one over the other (you need to make sure that are aligned and/or in the right place) and then you just use the slice functionality:
You need to do several rounds over each layer/color until you are able to have something like this, in where each layer do not contains the any of the designs from any other color:
When you separate the layers, you can notice that each layer is unique and they fit like a puzzle when you overlap them and there are no colors from one layer that they need to be overlap over the previously or the next layer:
Step 1.4: Design Our Elf coaster
Lastly we are going to do our last design:
1- We are going to start by uploading our Elf image, using the upload functionality into our canvas.
2- Once in our canvas, we are going to ungroup the image as we did previously, because we need to slice all the elements that are going to be overlapped between each other.
💡Tip: Since there are very little elements on our elf, we are going to remove all the circles related to the interior of the shoes, this is also based on the size of your coaster or your physical material, since you can apply this design to any other item like tote bags, t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.
3- After you slices all the elements, you should have something like:
4- Now we are going to place our elf over our coater and in there we are going to resize it to make sure that looks ok:
5- No, using the text functionality, we are going to add the following text using the following fonts that you previously installed:
- Santa’s -> JandaChunky Font
- Little -> Felt font
- Helper -> PT Narrow Font
You should have something like:
6- We are going to place our text over the coaster and we are going to resize so it fits between the Elf’s hat and the Elf’s shoes:
7- We are going to add some circles in the same color as the design next to helper:
8- After you are happy with the measurements and the design of all your coasters, it’s time to start cutting them!!!
Step 2: Cut Our Designs
Before moving any further, we are going to save our design. To do that:
1- Click on Save link on the top right corner of the Design Space and Add a descriptive name and click on Save Green Button.
2- Now that our project is saved, we need to make sure that our right machine is selected, to that, we click on the link next to the Make Green Button and from the options listed, we choose the one that we are going to use. In our case it is the Maker.
3- Let’s start Cutting our Project!!!!! By clicking on Make Green Button.
4- We are going to see on the next page, that we have 1 cut page per color, in our case we are going to have 4 sheets.
We are going to make sure that the mirror option is ON before clicking on continue to browse the material.
5- After we clicked on Continue and we are going to click on Browser Materials, and in there we are going to search for INK:
6- We can start cutting the design. We need to make sure that the color of the sheet is facing up and the glossy part is touching the mat. (Opposite of how you placed vinyl on the mat)
Step 3: Weeding our Designs
1- After all the cuts are done, we are going to start weeding our design, first by removing it from the mat, we are going to peel the mat from the material:
2- We are going to use our weeding tool to remove the excess, we need to be very careful because this material tends to brake like paper, so it’s very easy to break the design:
You can notice that it’s very similar to paper:
After removing all the excess, you should have something like:
3- You are going to do the same process with all the other cuts / designs.
💡Tip: For the designs like the wreath in where you can add all the pieces into one, we recommend to do that you transfer the design to the coaster all at once:
4- After all the excesses were removed from the different designs, we are ready to start using our Easy press to transfer our design!
Step 4: Transferring our Designs
For infusible Ink, we need to be very careful because if you move your easy press while transferring your design is going to move and is going to also be transferred to the “new” place.
1- We are going to grab one of our coasters and we are going to remove the protective layer that has on it:
2- We are going to turn on our Easy press and we are going to set:
Timer: 55 seconds
Temperature: 400 F
3- Now, we are going to start placing our design in the desired place facing the color side down.
💡Tip: For coasters we like to place a towel under the coasters so they do not move while you place the design and while you are transferring it.
4- We are going to place our teflon sheet or another towel over it in order to start transferring the design.
⚠️WARNING: Teflon sheet, and Infusible Ink ARE VERY HOT!
5- We are going to press our design so it transferred, when the timer finished, we are going to remove the teflon sheet by grabbing it with tweezers
💡Tip: While removing the protection with the tweezers, you notice that the color is not vibrant you can place it over again and user your heat press one more time.
6- You are going to follow the same process for the gingerbread coaster since you do not need to do any extra steps, just place the whole design over the coaster and transfer it.
7- For the rest of the coasters like the truck and the elf, we are going to do the transfer process in steps:
First press is going to include:
The second press is going to be with:
And the last press is going to be for the wheels:
So you can have the whole design:
8- After repeating the same process for all your coasters you did it one more time!
