Step 1: Design The Gift Tag
1- Open up Cricut Design Space
2- From the Home Screen, click on the to Right Green Button “New Project”. This is to be able to start creating the design for your project.
3- With the Blank Canvas ready to use, we can start our amazing Project!
4- We are going to use a combination of Shapes in order to create our Ornament. Go to Shapes on the left side Menu Bar and click on it, and choose the circle in order to add it to the canvas:
Repeat this step one more time in order to obtain 2 circles on our canvas.
5- Once the circle is on the canvas, we are going to resize the shapes. In order to do this, click on one of the circle shapes, go to the top bar menu and locate the Size functionality. In there click on the W (Width) and add 3.5“ and click on the return key in your keyboard. You are going to see that the H (Height) is automatically populated (in this case is going to be 3.5”) and then when are going to proceed with the other circle W and H: 3.2”
💡Tip: If the Height measurement is not the desire one, you can adjust it by clicking on the little lock that is showing, after this, the lock is going to be shown unlocked, meaning that you are going to manage the size/dimensions for the W and H independently.
6- In the left Bar Menu, click on: “Images”:
7- Once we are inside the Images section:
- Under the Filters Section we are going to check the box for Free
- On the search bar we are going to search by: Check Mark
- We are going to click the Return key on our keyboard and wait a couple of seconds to see all the different results.
- In this case, we are going to use the Seventh image that is showing, we are going to click over the image and a Green rectangle should be showing highlighting the external border of the image.
💡Tip: If you click on the three small dots that are showing on the right top corner of the image you are going to be able to see Image information like the Code for the image, and you can search the image by using that code:
8- Once we have the image that we are going to use, we need to remove one of the checks that is showing:
In order to do this, we are going to add a rectangle shape to our canvas (using the same method as we did with the circle), once we have the rectangle, we are going to overlap the rectangle over our Check mark image, making sure that only that isolated check is the one that is under the rectangle:
💡Tip: Probably you have to resize the rectangle in order to cover the whole check that we want to remove.
9- We are going to select now the Image that we added and the Rectangle shape and by using the slice functionality we are going to slice them:
After we click on the slice functionality, we are going to have the following:
💡Tip: To select the image and the shape you can click and drag the mouse over the 2 items in order to select them.
10- We are going to delete the slice results that we are not going to need for this project:
💡Tip: In order to delete any shape or image, you can click on the item under the layers menu and then click on the trashcan icon or just hit delete on your keyboard.
11- After we delete the slice results that we are not going to use, we are going to duplicate our new image 4 times:
💡Tip: In order to duplicate the shape, you have different ways to do it:
- Click on the shape, then click on the right button of your mouse a menu is going to be displayed and in there you click on the duplicate option, you have to repeat this step in our example 4 times, we need to have 7 in total:
- Click on the shape, then on your keyboard click Command D / Control D (based if you are using Mac or Windows) and you are going to see that the shape starts to duplicate, you need to do this 6 times.
12- We are going to place the 5 check marks over our smaller circle (in my case is they gray one) and we are going to arrange them in a way that we like how is looking:
Note that I rearrange them until I like how they look, you can resize each one of them and arrange them as your preference.
💡Tip: If the circle is showing over the check marks images, click on the circle and by using the Arrange functionality on the Top Menu bar, click on Send to Back functionality
13- Once we have the design how we like it, we are going to proceed and select all of them (exam the smallest circle) and by using the Slice Functionality, we are going to select one by one and applying the slice option:
- Choose the circle and one of the check marks and click on slice (without moving any of the shapes)
- Then choose another of the check marks and the circle, and repeat this process until all the check marks were selected.
- You should have something like this:
You can delete all the slice results EXCEPT the one containing the circle.
14 – At this point we are going to have the 2 circles, we are going to overlap one over the one, and by using the Align functionality, we are going to align them center horizontally and center vertically
15- By having the 2 circles selected, using the Combine functionality, and choose the subtract functionality
The subtract functionality result should be:
16- We are going to proceed by creating the place to hang our ornament, we have 2 ways of doing this:
- Simple method: Overlap an small circle and slicing it at the top of the ornament:
💡Tip: You can use any shape not only a circle and remember to align the circle vertically so it’s centered.
- Advance method: We are going to use 3 shapes: Rectangle x1, Half Circle x 2 and Pennant x 3
- We are going to locate one half circle over the rectangle and selecting the 2 shapes and using the Weld Functionality inside the combined functionality we proceed to Weld them.
- Then we are going to select the second circle and overlap it over our Weld Shape (there is no need to change the color), we center both items vertically and we use the Slice functionality:
- Then we rotate the Pennant x3 180 degrees so the round section is on the top, we resize them so they can fit inside our shape. We center them vertically so we can ensure that everything is align and we use the subtract functionality located inside the Combine Functionality
💡Tip: If you have more than one item that you need to align over other item, you need to attached them first. So in this case I selected the 3 Pennants and I aligned them horizontally and I proceeded to attach them. And later I center vertically this group of 3 items.
17- After our hanging part is done, we need to resize it and place them over our main arrangement. W: 1.18” and H: 0.86”, we align both of the items vertically and we use the Weld functionality
💡Tip: Remember that you can resize them with the measurements that works for your project.
18 -We are ready to CUT our design!
💡Tip: As the none yellow sections are going to be removed after cutting, we suggest adding a circle on the color of your choice, in where you can paste them and latter on you can write on it. So we are going to add another circle W:3.5” and we are going to cut it in a different color.
💡Tip: You can cut multiple Tags per time, if you want to use different colors, just duplicate the design and change the color of the item by using the color change square next to operation.
