Step 1: Create The Design

1: In order to be able to start our Design, we are going to access our Design Space application and in there we are going to click on the + New Project Green button located on the top Right corner of our screen.

2: After we clicked in there, we are going to be able to access our Blank Canvas, in where we are going to start creating our Design:

2: We are going to upload our flowers by using the upload functionality and you are going to upload the following images:

  • Rose.svg
  • Cone_Dahlia.svg
  • Flower.svg

Click on Upload Image button and then in the next screen you are going to browse on your physical device and add them:

After you add the image, you can click on Continue button:

On the next screen you can add a name or a Tag and then click on Upload and it is going to be added to your canvas after this.

You are going to do this same process with all the different flowers

💡Tip: You have to upload each file individually, but you can all of them together to the canvas by clicking on each image and then click on add to canvas button.

3: We are going to change the color of the flowers to match our physical cardstock, you are going to select the element that you want to change the color and then click on the small square next to operations drop down and in there you can select the desire color:

4: We are going to resize the flowers to match our physical cardstock, we are going to select the element that we want to resize and then go to the top bar and in there we are going to add the desire measurement:

5: For the flower Cone Dahlia we are going to ungroup all the elements, by clicking on the element and then right click on your mouse, and in there click ungroup:

6: We are going to select on the Cone Dahlia lines and we are going to change the operation to PEN instead of cut:

7: Now, we are going to select the lines and the circle and we are going to attach them together:

💡Tip: We use the attach functionality so the machine can understand where needs to be drawn the lines.

💡Tip 2: If you are going to resize this particular flower, you need to Group all the element again, doing the same process as when we ungroup the elements.

8: After we added all the images to our canvas, we are going to take a look at the measurements and make sure that all of them look as expected.

  • Cone Dahlia: W: 12” and H: 8.312
  • Rose: W: 35.32” and H: 19.52”

💡Tip: This measurements are not the actual cardstock size this is the size of all the pieces combine together, so do not panic about those measurements, you need to be concern if each of the individual pieces are bigger than 11.75” x 11.75”

  • Flower: W: 11” and H: 9.33”

After we add all of  them, you should be able to see something like:

9: We are only going to do one flower of each in different colors, but feel free to add more flowers and different colors and sizes to see how different they are and the different dimensions. To add more flowers you go to the Upload functionality and in there click on the image that you want to add and then click on Add to Canvas button

10: We are going to save our Design since we are ready to cut:

Step 2: Cut The Design

1: Before start printing and cutting our design, we need to make sure that we are going to cut with the right cricut machine, in order to do this, we are going to click on Maker in the top Right Menu, next to Make Green button and in there, we are going to chose our machine, in our case we are using a Cricut Maker

2: We are going to turn on our cricut machine by clicking on the power button:

3: We are ready to start printing and cutting, so you are going to click on the MAKE green button.

4: Before proceeding with the print and cut, we are going to present to you all the functionalities/configurations that you can see on that screen:

💡Tip: Since we are not using different configurations than the default ones, there is no need to change anything on this page.

5: We are going to click on Continue and in the next screen we are going to click on Browse All Material:

Once in there, we are going to search by the word: Cardstock

💡Tip: If you click on the favorite icon next to the cricut small icon, you can easily access the material without searching for it every time.

6: In our case is just Cardstock, so we are going to chose Pressure Default the following configurations:

7: Now that our configurations are ready, we are going to proceed to add our vinyl in our physical mat and we are ready to start cutting.

Step 3: Weeding

1: After all the different elements were cut, we are ready to start weeding, first we need to gently wave and the fold our mat in order to remove first the cardstock that is not related to the flower and/or petals (the excess).

And after removing the excess, we can gently start folding the mat again to peel the flower.

3: We are going to repeat the process for all the different flowers and petals until all our elements are ready to start the assembling process.

Step 4.1: Assembling the flowers:

1: We are going to add a little bit of character to some of the different flowers, for this you can use INK, markers, paint or leave them plain if you want.

For most of them I’m going to use some ink on the borders from both sides, we really like how they look with a little bit of color on the borders, this makes a look more realistic:

Below is the Flower type with and without Ink so you can see the difference:

Cone Dahlia:

1: We are going to start creating our cones, by helping us with our finger in order to bend / roll the paper and then we are going to add a dot of glue in order to glue the 2 sides of the cone, hold it with your hands a couple of seconds until they are fully glue and move to the next cone.

2: Once when we have all our cones, we are ready to start with the shape of this gorgeous flower:

3: We are going to start placing our cones on the second line from the outside to the inside

💡Tip: If you want a bigger Dahlia or smaller one, you can play with the grid and where you are going to start.

4: Before gluing them into our guide grid / circle, we are going to flatten the bottom of the cone so it’s easier to glue them and then fits better nicely all together:

5: We are ready to start gluing them into our grid, the first row should be like this:

6: For the second row, we are going to move us one space closer to the center, and we are going to place the cones between the ones that we place on the first row and we are going to do that until we are done.

7: For the last cones next to the center, you can use a pen, or the scoring tool from cricut to help you glue the bottom of the cone to the grid:

8: And after adding all the cones you should have something like:

The dimensions of the final product is: W: 7.5” x H: 7.5”

Roses:

1: you are going to grab each individual petal and glue the bottom of it, one side over the other, like:

After you glue all the bottoms, you should have the following:

2: We are going to separate the petals into 3 groups, big, medium and small petals. And we are going to grab our circle and we are going to glue the bottom of the petals into it:

3: Now, we are going to glue the medium size petals:

4: And now, we are going to proceed with the small ones:

5: We are now going to grab the 2 different flowers that are related to the Rose, to create the center of this flower.

First the smallest one,  we are going to front and glue on the outer sides 2 of the parts that are facing each other, and then we are going to wrap those 2 with the other 2 petals.

Then we are going to grab the middle size one, we are going to glue the middle and place the small one over it and then we are going to wrap it with the petals. And now, we are going to grab the biggest one and proceed the same as previously, we are going to glue the middle and then wrap the center with the the petals:

6: finally we are going to place the center over the rest of our rose, with glue in the center, you should have something like:

The dimensions of the final product is: W: 8.5” and H: 7.5”

Flower Type:

💡Tip: The process for this flower is very similar to the Rose one that we did previously.

1: We are going to apply some glue at the bottom of each petal and we are going to fold over the other side, the same as you did with the rose flower.

You are going to do this step with all the different pieces related to the flower.

2: We are going to start assembling the flower from the biggest piece to the small one:

The dimensions of the final product is: W: 4.5” and H: 4”

Step 4.2: Use your flowers!

1: You are ready to use your flowers in any place that you like!
