Step 1: Create the Design
1: In order to be able to start our Design, we are going to access our Design Space application and in there we are going to click on the + New Project Green button located on the top Right corner of our screen.
2: After we clicked in there, we are going to be able to access our Blank Canvas, in where we are going to start creating our Design:
3: We are going to use the Shapes functionality to add a square to our canvas.
4: We are going to resize our square with the following size: W: 7.5” and H: 7.5” . This measurement is the same as the physical shadow box that we are using.
💡Tip: Make sure that you use the size related to your physical shadow box, if your shadow box is rectangular, you have to unlock your size measurements in order to add them independently.
5: We are going to duplicate our square 4 times, in order the to have 5 squares in total:
\
6: Now we are going to upload our paw file. Make sure you have it downloaded first by clicking this link and saving it to your computer. After that, click on the Upload icon and follow the steps showing in there:
After clicking on Upload image, it’s time to browse for your file:
Click on Continue button:
And finally click on Upload in order to add the image / file into your canvas:
7: We are going to resize our image with the following measurements: W: 7” and H: 7.04”
8: After the image was resized, we are going to start creating our offset, we are going to select the image and then we are going to click on offset functionality.
For this particular design we want to use a negative offset in order to create a deepnest design, so we are going to use the left side of the distance section.
When we are happy with the offset (border) that is showing on our design, we are going to click on apply:
9: We are going to proceed doing an offset again, but this time we are going to generate it by selecting the result of the previous offset:
💡Tip: We are changing the colors so it’s easier to identify the different layers, in order to change the color, select the element and then locate the operations section in the top menu bar and in there click on the square that is showing with a color inside:
10: We are going to do two more times the offsets, in order to have 4 different offsets:
Third offset:
Fourth Offset:
11: Now, we are going to select the squares that we created in STEP 5 and we are going to change the colors to match the color of the offsets. And by using the Align functionality, we are going to align to center all the squares. You should have something like:
12: Once the squares are centered, we are going to grab all our paws (including the offsets) and and we are going to place them over the squares and align them to the center by following the same process as the previous step:
💡Tip: When moving the paws over the squares, the paws are not showing over the squares, click on the paws and then use the Arrange functionality to bring the image to the front:
13: Now, you are going to start selecting the paw and the square in the same color and you are going to slice them:
After you apply the slice, you should have something like:
💡Tip: You are going to keep only the slice element that contains the square, the other 2 elements you can delete them by selecting them and then clicking on your delete key in your keyboard. After deleting them you should see:
14: You are going to do the same process as STEP 13 for the other 3 offsets and squares. After you are done with all the paws and squares, you should see something like:
💡Tip: For the original paw image that we inserted, in order to be able to apply the slice functionality, you need to weld the elements first, by clicking on the element, then click on combine and lastly click on Weld
15: At this point our design is READY and we can start cutting.
In this tutorial, you are going to learn/practice the following functionalities:
- Slice Images/shapes
- Add Shapes and Images
- Upload Images
- Resize Elements
- Delete Elements
- Create an Offset
- Change colors
- Weld Elements
