Step 1.1: Create the Snowflake Bottle Design
1: In order to be able to start our Design, we are going to access our Design
Space application and in there we are going to click on the + New Project Green button located on the top Right corner of our screen.
2: After we clicked in there, we are going to be able to access our Blank Canvas, in where we are going to start creating our Design:
3: We are going to use the Images functionality to search for snowflakes and we are going to add them to the canvas:
💡Tip: Since the size of the snowflakes are not going to be very big, we need to try to avoid the ones that have very fine lines or have a lot of detail on them.
4: We are also going to upload other snowflakes by using the upload functionality and we are going to follow the steps showing on our screen:
You are going to search for the snowflake image that you already downloaded into your device:
After you clicked on upload, the snowflakes are going to be showing on your canvas:
5: From the snowflakes that we uploaded, we are going to use only the small one, so we are going to ungroup the images and we are going to delete the other snowflakes that we are not going to use.
💡Tip: You can use as many different snowflakes as you want.
After you ungroup them you should be able to see the following:
We are going to proceed and delete the snowflake that we are not going to use:
6: Now, you should have the following snowflakes images on your Canvas:
7: We are going to resize them using 3 different measurements as follow:
💡Tip: Remember that the measurements are just a guide, you can choose any size base on your physical bottle.
8: We are going to change the color of our snowflakes, this is for us to be able to cut the same kind of snowflake with the same color if we are planning to use more than one color. If you want to do it randomly, you can do that too.
We are going to select one of the snowflakes and we are going to click on the square color next to the drop down operation in order to change the color:
After you change the color, your image should look like:
9: You are going to repeat the same process with the rest of the snowflakes. After changing the color, you should have something like:
10: We are going to duplicate our snowflakes as many times as we want. In order to do it, we are going to select the snowflake and then we are going to click on the Duplicate functionality:
After you clicked on the Duplicate functionality all the times that you want/need you should have something like:
As a reference we have the following amount of snowflakes:
- Purple: 7
- Gray: 6
- Light Blue: 6
12: We are ready to start cutting the snowflakes!
OPTIONAL: We are going to create 2 more designs, if you want to skip them and start cutting this design, you can go to STEP 2: Cut the Design .
Step 1.2: Create The Pine Tree Design
13: Using the Upload functionality, we are going to proceed and upload our Pine tree design. After clicking on the Upload functionality, you are going to click on Browse in order to search for the file.
In this step, we need to remove the background of your image, so we are going to use the select option and we are going to start clicking all over the background:
You are going to be able to identify that when the background was removed, the little squares in grey and white are showing and not just a solid plain white color.
After all the background was removed, you can click on Apply & Continue, in the next step we are going to choose Single layer and click on Continue:
After reviewing the design, we can click on Upload in order to add it to our canvas:
The image in our canvas:
💡Tip: You need to download the file that we are proving into your computer / device in order to be able to use it in your Design Space application.
14: We are going to resize the pine based on the physical bottle that we are going to use. In our case: W: 2.5” and H: 4.5”
💡Tip: You can add more pines or combine different trees to apply to your bottle.
15: We are ready to move to our last design!
Step 1.3: Create the Reindeer Design
16: We are going to use the Images functionality, and we are going to search for: deer. In our case we are going to use the first option that is showing and add it to our canvas, but you can use any of the options available.
17: Using the same process we are going to add some stars, snowflake and a wreath:
Your canvas looks something similar to this:
18: We are going to start our design by placing our snowflake on the chest of the deer and resize it accordingly:
The measurements that we are using as a guide are the following:
💡Tip: We are changing the color so it looks better while we are creating the design, but is not needed.
19: We are going to select the snowflake and the deer and we are going to proceed to apply the slice functionality:
20: We are going to do the same with the stars that we selected and after slicing them you should have something like:
21: We are now going to resize our wreath so our deer fits inside of it:
22: When we are happy, we are going to weld them together:
After you welded them:
23: Now, we need to make sure that the design is going to fit in our bottle, in our case based on our physical bottle, we are going to do the design more similar to an oval:
💡Tip: Remember to always check your measurements based on your physical material (bottle, Sweatshirt, mug, wine glass, etc).
24: Our three designs are READY and we can start cutting!
Step 2: Cut the Designs
1: After you are happy with the different designs, we are ready to save them, Click on Save button on the Right Top side of the screen and provide a name to your design and click on Save button.
2: We are going to click on the Make button to start configuring our materials!
3: You are going to be able to see one mat per color of your design, remember that the colors there are for reference only, the real color is going to be the one related with the vinyl that you are using.
4: We are going to click on continue, and in there we are going to search for the vinyl type that we are going to use, in our case we are going to use 3 different types of vinyl, so we need to change the configurations for the material before each cut.
Snowflakes: Glitter Vinyl
Pine Tree: Holographic Vinyl
Deer: Vinyl
💡Tip: If you are using the same type of vinyl but just a different color, there is no need to change the material type before each cut, this is only for the cases that the material is different.
Step 3: Etch Your Bottles
1: We are going to etch one of our bottles completely. PLEASE use gloves in order to use the etching cream and be very careful.
2: We are going to apply the etching cream with one of our brushes on a section of our bottle and we are going to use the round sponge brush in order to create a sprinkle effect:
3: After the whole bottle is covered with the etching cream, you are going to wait between 5-10 minutes before washing the whole bottle with warm water.
USE GLOVES while washing the bottle.
4: After you wash the bottle, let it dry and it is ready to be used!
You can notice the difference between a clear bottle and one that was etched:
The “sprinkle” effect looks like this:
Step 4: Weed The Designs
1: After the cut is done, you are going to unload the mat and we are going to remove the vinyl from the mat very gently:
2: We are going to help us with our weeding tool in order to remove the excesses:
After weeding, you should have:
3: You are going to do the same process with the rest of the snowflakes and the other designs:
Step 5: Assemble The Bottles
Snowflakes
1: We are going to start with our snowflake bottle, we are going to use transfer tape in order to transfer each snowflake individually to the bottle, we are going to apply the transfer tape over the vinyl with the design:
We are going to peel the transfer tape making sure that the design was transferred to the tape:
💡Tip: If the design was not transferred, you need to scratch the design over the tape with your fingers, or you can use the scraping tool in order to the design to transfer.
2: We are going to use the bottle that we etched for this design, we are going to put the transfer tape over the bottle, and with our fingers we are going to rub/scratch the design so it can be transferred, we are going to peel the tape very gentle in order to leave the design in the bottle:
💡Tip: Besides the snowflakes, we are also using the centers of the snowflakes that are stars.
3: You are going to apply the same process for all the different snowflakes and you are going to place them randomly all over the bottle surface:
As Optional, you can add the light to this bottle.
The final product should be something similar to:
Reindeer
4: We are going to proceed with our deer bottle, we are going to apply the transfer tape over the design:
We are going to peel the design with the transfer tape and place it in our bottle:
5: We are going to add some lights and gift confetti:
The final product should be something like:
Pine Tree
6: For our pine tree, we are going to apply the same process, by transferring the design with the transfer tape, and we are going to add also some lights and confetti into the bottle:
The final product should be something like:
7: You did it one more time! Remember that you can use this same process with any other design and theme that you may like!
