Step 1: Install the Font
1: We are going to install the font. In order to do this, first we need to make sure that Design Space is closed and then we are going to download the font to our device.
2: After you downloaded the font to your device, you are going to search it and install it, by following the steps showing based on your device, for Mac Devices you should follow the following steps:
Step 2: Create the Design
1: In order to be able to start our Design, we are going to access our Design
Space application and in there we are going to click on the + New Project Green button located on the top Right corner of our screen.
2: After we clicked in there, we are going to be able to access our Blank Canvas, in where we are going to start creating our Design:
3: We are going to use the Images functionality to add an easter egg:
After you added to your canvas you should have something like:
4: We are going now to use shapes functionality to add an oval:
After adding the oval:
5: We are going to resize the oval, to make sure that all the small dots from the egg that we added are covered:
💡Tip: We change the color of the oval so it’s easier to identify.
6: Once all the dots are covered, we are going to select both elements and weld them together:
After applying the weld, you should have:
7: We are going to rotate our egg and resize it to the following measurements:
W: 3.11” and H: 4.39”
8: We are going to use one more time the images functionality but this time we are going to search for a zigzag line:
9: We are going to add a score line located in the shapes functionality and we are going to change the operation from scoring to cut:
You should have now a line:
💡Tip: We are going to create our own zig zag that is going to allow us to simulate that we have a cracked egg.
10: We are going to rotate the line to match the side of our zig zag:
11: Now, we are going to resize the line to the same length of the zig zag:
12: We are going to duplicate 7 times this line:
You should have something like:
13: We are going to place each one of the lines following the shape of the zig zag in order to have something similar to this:
14: Once you are done with the zig zag, we are going to attach it:
After attaching them:
💡Tip: This is to make sure that all the lines are going to be cut in that same shape.
15: Now we are going to place the zig zag over our egg near to the top part, and then we are going to resize it to width of the egg, something like:
💡Tip: We recommend to change the color to a light color so it’s easier to see the zig zag
After you resize it you should have the following:
We are going to attach the zig zag to the egg:
16: We are going to use the offset functionality to create an offset of the egg:
After applying the offset:
17: Using the shapes functionality we are going to add a square, change the color to a lighter one, in our case we are going to use white and resize it to the following measurements: W: 1.89” and H: 2.76”
💡Tip: The rectangle/square or any other shape that you want to use needs to fit inside the small egg.
18: Using the text functionality, we are going to add the phrase: Happy Easter ( we are going to separate it in 2 different sections)
19: We are going to change the font for the one that we previously installed:
After you change the font:
💡Tip: You can use any other font that you like.
20: We are going to place and resize the text as needed over our rectangle:
21: At this point with your text you have 2 options:
- Print then cut functionality
- Draw functionality
We are going to use the Draw functionality, but it is up to you which option you want to use.
After you change the operation, for Draw option, you should see something like:
💡Tip: Your text needs to be placed almost at the bottom of the rectangle, since we are going to glue the top part.
22: The last step is to make sure that you attached your text to the rectangle.
For the print and then cut option besides attaching the text, you need to flatten it also.
23: We are ready to cut our design!
💡Tip: Remember to delete or hide any element that you are not planning to cut, like the zig zag that we used as a template:
Step 3: Cut the Design
1: After you are happy with the designs, we are ready to save the project, Click on Save button on the Right Top side of the screen and provide a name to your design and click on Save button.
2: We are going to click on the Make button to start configuring our materials!
3: You are going to be able to see one mat per color of your design, remember that the colors there are for reference only, the real color is going to be the one related with the material color that you are using.
If you are going to use the print then cut, you should be able to see something like:
If you are using the Draw option, you should be able to see something like:
4: In our case, we are going to use some theme cardstock, so we should use the following settings:
💡Tip: Make sure to check the material type that you are using to use the right settings.
5: After the cut is done, you are going to unload the mat and remove all the elements from it very gently.
Step 4: Preparing the Easter Tags
1: We are going to do two different tags using some different cardstock so you can see different options. We are going to apply some ink to the edges of the eggs:
After applying the ink:
2: We are going to process to attach the rectangle with the text, we are going to place it on the back of our egg,
We are going to glue the top part of the rectangle to the top part of the egg in order to obtain something like:
💡Tip: Here is the difference between adding the text more to the top than the bottom:
3: In the back of our egg (the bottom part) we are going to add some square foam in order to ensure that when we pull off and on the top part is staying in the middle:
This part is going to be attached with the foam squares to the big egg part that we have.
4: We are going to start adding some embellishments to the exterior of our eggs, in our case we are going to use a combination of:
- Stamps
- Paper flowers
- Ink
- Stickers
- Mini Easter gnomes
You can add any other embellishment that you like or have.
After adding the embellishment, we are going to do a hole in the back of your big egg in order to add some ribbon to be able to attach it to a bag and also we are going to add a small piece of ribbon in the removable part in order to be able to grab it, and after this final touches, your Egg tag is DONE! Great job!!!!
